Resolved Problems about Half Wave Rectifier

A half-wave rectifier has a rectified voltage V_C_max = 30 V. The ripple factor is r_pp = 5%. Calculate the value of the maximum load that the circuit can supply using C = 2 000 µF.

Solution of the Problem 62-5

With the values provided we can calculate the value of ΔV_r, or

ΔV_r = r_pp V_C_max = 0.05 x 30 = 1.5 V

Now we can calculate the value of V_DC, because

V_DC = V_C_max - (ΔV_r/2 ) = 30 - 0,75 = 29.25 V

Using the eq. 62-05, and rearranging the terms, we can calculate the value of R_L, that is, the value of the load that the circuit supports for the ripple is not greater than 0.05.

R_L = 1 / f C r_pp = 1 / ( 60 x 2 x 10^-3 x 0.05) = 167 Ω
